The rice terraced hillside of Soulshine has been farmed since the 9th century just as it as is today, the river running along side us has taught thousands of children to swim and the community has carried the wisdom and offerings to the gods for hundreds of years just as they do now, three times daily.
It is from that devotion to creating happiness, that Soulshine was built as a place where travelers, seekers and open hearted adventurers could connect with the land, each other, with love, laughter and the soul of this island that has called so many to its shores.
Ubud is the heart of Balinese craftsmanship and the creative genius that can be found in the hands and minds of every local carver, weaver, metal worker, builder, painter, musician and dancer is what inspired international recording artist Michael Franti to find land in 2008 to build what started as a five room hotel dedicated to the soulful transformation of it’s guests. He put the yoga room on the top floor, with a 360 degree spectacular panorama view with the belief that if it was the most important room in the building, people would come in groups to practice Yoga. They did. And over the years Soulshine grew as a retreat oasis, organic farm, restaurant and music venue, hosting over 500 yoga retreats in its first ten years.
Sound was also woven into its life blood with the belief that through music, people could find healing, joy, creativity and connection. Live musicians, DJ’s, producers, indigenous and pop artists have all enjoyed Soulshine’s creative energy.
In 2020, Sara Agah Franti came on board to co-lead a new expansion to life and in 2023, Soulshine opened ‘Stay Human’, a farm to table restaurant and pool club (complete with adult waterslide), ‘Togetherness’, a music, food and beverage lounge dedicated to human connection and the Panorama suites, tropical modern luxury rooms which boast a turntable and record collection and the best views in the Ubud area.
